Russian President Putin Commands Troops Into Eastern Ukraine, U.S Sanctions 2 Separatist Areas, Not Russian Yet, Part - 4

We will have much more on this story ahead when special adviser to george gascon alex bastian joins us next hour right here on america's newsroom so stay tuned for that in the meantime more trouble for progressive crime policies in washington d.c a plan to address gun violence by cutting the police budget and adopting a public health approach is failing to curb crime in our nation's capital alexandria hoff is on that story today for us in d.c alex hi bill yeah last year dc's mayor muriel bowser announced this plan to address gun violence by taking a public health approach she called it the first in the nation of its kind well a year into the program,

Shootings and carjackings have seen a sharp rise now the program called building blocks dc is being restructured according to the washington post the same amount that was cut from the police budget in 2020. last week reporters pressed the mayor's office on what exactly the program does people who are known in the community who are leaders in the community who can help us identify those people who are also leaders but are doing the wrong thing and if we identify those leaders and poor services in those leaders they can help us stop crime before it happens,

The mayor said her program is part of multiple programs in the city that function as alternatives to law enforcement we've seen those of course pop up all over the country dc's attorney general who functions like a district attorney oversees his department's own restorative justice initiative the two have been publicly feuding on who is to blame for juveniles in the city committing crime without perceived fear of punishment according to the d.c attorney general's office last year the city had three times as many children arrested for carjackings as it did in 2020 and of those juveniles 22 percent had either been arrested for a carjacking before or went on to commit another one bill work to do alexandria hoff thank you in washington,

And progressive manhattan d.a alvin bragg under fire again after reducing felony charges against a man police say has 46 prior arrests and is currently on parole that career criminal was arrested on a grand larceny charge last week after a transit cop caught him taking 60 dollars from an unsuspecting subway rider's backpack bragg downgraded the charge to petty larceny and he was released without bail 25 past agents of the southern border say they're seeing a rise in family units trying to cross into the country fox news recently took a ride along with some border agents to find out for ourselves more on that coming up and georgia is home to two of the more contentious races in this year's fox news power rankings we'll take a closer look at the toss-ups for the senate and the governor's job in the peach state coming up today,

Do not miss this she's been so muddled in the way they have made vladimir putin have the upper hand throughout this entire time every time putin acts we are on our back foot he does no he has no fear of the united states of america and a response that we might take he can see even this morning he's now not moved peacekeeping troops in but moved in his tanks mike pompeo moments ago with dana and me here slamming the response so far on the russia aggression in ukraine right now outside the russian embassy in kiev a massive demonstration underway you can see ukrainians raising their voices in protest this is vladimir putin sent the tanks and the trucks and the troops into their country,

The russian president decreeing two territories there independent from ukraine want to bring in james freeman wall street journal talk about this europe's response nato joe biden etc james how are you good morning to you why don't we kick off with the editorial from your division of the wall street journal cracks in western resolve and russia that's the headline here's the key graph we would have thought the europeans especially the germans would understand that historical echo would respond accordingly if the ukraine slaughter unfolds american and european elites should reflect on how they have again made themselves hostages to a dictator clearly a reference to adolf hitler,

And others how do you see it yeah i think clearly putin's move says that he doesn't think the cost of this invasion incursion whatever people are calling it is too high yet so i think that would say that pretty clearly we and our friends in the west have not made it clear to him that there will be a cost now perhaps folks in the german government read that editorial because this is progress that they're now saying no to the nordstream gas pipeline we also see in the uk new sanctions on russian banks and oligarchs that's another step forward raising the cost suggesting to him that it's not going to be a a pleasant journey,

As he moves westward in ukraine one of your colleagues gerard baker wrote about the cold war and that the cold war was won but then the west lost it yeah and i just from a historical perspective thinking about this the weight of this it might seem like it's just a minor incursion to some people but it does feel very heavy i would imagine if you're sitting there especially in the baltic states poland etc yeah i think if you want to go back and look at mistakes we made in the 90s in terms of maybe you think about,

Then vice president al gore hugging victor cherno mirden and embracing the people who were taking over that country instead of really demanding a rule of law and and i think that's part of what we're seeing now they did not get rule of law they got this kind of kleptocracy run by vladimir putin it is a country that as a result has underachieved economically it's an economy that is smaller than that of texas even though it has a much larger population a lot of natural resources a lot of well-educated people.
